Peter Smallwood was elected as a councillor for Ruislip in May 2022. He currently serves on the Children, Families and Education Select Committee, the Licensing Committee, and is Vice-Chair of the Residents’ Services Select Committee. He is also a member of the Hillingdon Safer Neighbourhood Board. This body brings together all the Safer Neighbourhood panels across the borough and has direct engagement with senior people in the police.
Alongside his council work, Peter is involved in a range of local and community organisations. He is a Trustee of the Union of Brunel Students, where he supports governance and mentoring of student officers, and a Governor at Whiteheath Infant School. He also sits on the Executive Council of a local Scout group and plays an active role in local charitable work through Ruislip Round Table 124 and the Ruislip Combined Charity.
Peter was awarded an OBE in the 2025 New Year Honours for his national service as President and Vice President of the Conservative Party.
Outside of public life, Peter is a Fulham season ticket holder and a regular at Wealdstone FC, supporting both his lifelong club and his local team. He enjoys staying connected with the community through sport, local events, and volunteering.
