Ruislip Ward Councillor
  • Councillors

Peter Smallwood was elected as a councillor for Ruislip in May 2022. He currently serves as Chairman of the Residents’ Services Select Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Licensing Committee, and is a member of the Children, Families and Education Select Committee and the Pensions Committee. Through these roles, he works closely with council officers to scrutinise services, improve outcomes for residents, and ensure accountability across key frontline areas, including waste, housing, education, and community safety.

Peter is also a member of the Hillingdon Safer Neighbourhood Board, which brings together Safer Neighbourhood Panels from across the borough and provides direct engagement with senior police leaders. This role reflects his strong interest in community safety and his commitment to ensuring that residents’ concerns are clearly heard and acted upon.

Alongside his council work, Peter is actively involved in a wide range of local and community organisations. He is a Trustee of the Union of Brunel Students, where he supports good governance, mentors student officers, and advises senior staff, drawing on his own experience as a former student representative. He is also a Governor at Whiteheath Infant School, supporting the school’s leadership and helping to ensure high standards for pupils and families.

Peter sits on the Executive Council of a local Scout group and plays an active role in local charitable work through Ruislip Round Table 124 and the Ruislip Combined Charity. Across these roles, he is particularly focused on volunteering, community cohesion, and practical support for local causes, often helping to bring together different organisations to maximise their impact.

Peter was awarded an OBE in the 2025 New Year Honours for his national service as President and Vice President of the Conservative Party. This recognition reflects his long-standing commitment to public service, leadership, and organisational development at both local and national level.

Outside of public life, Peter is a Fulham FC season ticket holder and a regular at Wealdstone FC, supporting both his lifelong club and his local team. He enjoys staying closely connected with the community through sport, local events, and volunteering, and believes that strong neighbourhoods are built as much through everyday relationships as they are through formal institutions.
